The United Nations has named GENERAL MILLS as one of seven U.S. businesses that are violating international law by operating in occupied Palestinian territories. Its PILLSBURY factory in the Atarot Industrial Zone (photo, right), an illegal Israeli settlement in East Jerusalem, has displaced, exploited, stifled, and otherwise harmed local Palestinian lives, livelihoods, and land. General Mills is profiting from apartheid and is complicit in Israel's occupation and annexation of the West Bank. Yet General Mills has endorsed the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. They have also stated in their Policy on Human Rights, "Respect for human rights is fundamental to our purpose of serving the world by making food people love and to our commitment to ethical business conduct." It's past time for this company put their principles into practice. And this is a good time for all of us to use the 'power of the pocketbook.' That's why a broad coalition of faith-based and secular partners, including UMKR, are calling on all those who care about Palestinian human rights to #BoycottPillsbury ! We know! Pillsbury products - the crescent rolls and biscuits, the pie crusts and cinammon rolls - are much-loved and yummy items in many of our homes. But we all can find substitutes! There are other brands and other options for every one of their products. Maybe you have something from Pillsbury at home right now? Not to worry! Just decide you won't be buying more, until Pillsbury gets out of illegal settlements. |

Need to know more before you join this boycott? A great place to start is this article by AFSC: "We're boycotting Pillsbury. Here's why you should join us." See it here In September 2020, UMKR wrote to the CEO of General Mills, telling him of our intention to join the boycott if his company did not end its operations on stolen Palestinian land. See the letter and download it. Find more information at our website: ☛ learn more about the United Nations' list of occupation companies, ☛ find documented research on General Mills' complicity in the occupation, ☛ see a report on the Atarot Settlement and how it is harming Palestinians ☛ learn from helpful sources about the settlements and the Israeli occupation See all these at our Pillsbury Boycott page |

ACTION #2: TAKE A PHOTO of yourself or someone at home holding a baked item that isn't Pillsbury! Here are 3 easy ways you can use your photo: 1. Post it on Facebook or Twitter and tell everyone: "I'm celebrating the holidays without Pillsbury! And you can too! @UMKairosResp #BoycottPillsbury #NoDoughForTheOccupation #BDS #PillsburyOutofPalestine" 2. Did you make the item yourself? We're impressed! Try this post instead: "I made this with no Pillsbury products. If I can, so can you! @UMKairosResp #BoycottPillsbury #NoDoughForTheOccupation #BDS #PillsburyOutofPalestine" 3. Don't want to post anything? That's okay... Just send us your photo by email! Send it to boycott@kairosresponse.org We'd LOVE to see it and hopefully can make a collection of UMKR friends who are baking and celebrating without Pillsbury this holiday season. |
