Stop the Ethnic Cleansing in Masafer Yatta
Petition to U.S. President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken

We urge the leaders of the U.S. government to use diplomatic action and accountability measures that exist in US law to stop the forced displacement of over 1200 Palestinians from their homes in Masafer Yatta.

If the Israeli government’s plans are allowed to proceed, this would be the single largest forced displacement of Palestinians since 1967.

On May 4, 2022, the Israeli High Court issued its final decision in a decades-long legal struggles for these communities to be able to stay on the land where they have lived for generations. The court gave the army the green light to force hundreds of families out of their homes.

Israel has already begun the mass expulsions, making 45 Palestinians homeless on May 11, 2022.  As The Washington Post recently wrote, “Human rights activists, both Palestinian and Israeli, contend that the real purpose of many of the firing zones has been to clear away Arab [Palestinian] residents and strengthen Israel’s grip on more occupied Palestinian territory.”

These threatened displacements in Masafer Yatta are part of an ongoing Israeli policy that forces Palestinians from their homes by confiscating property, denying building permits, and destroying homes. In the first four months of 2022, Israel destroyed at least 204 Palestinian structures, displacing 247 Palestinians and impacting over 1,150 others.  

As a people of conscience who care deeply about human rights, we are concerned that these demolitions and forced displacement cause terrible suffering for Palestinians and severaly undermine the prospects of a just and lasting peace for all. 

We ask that you speak out against these threatened evictions in the West Bank and that you use all the tools at your disposal to end Israel’s forced displacement of Palestinian families.  

The U.S. must demand accountability for Israeli violations of Palestinian rights, or these abuses will continue and increase. Your leadership is needed to bring change.
