Double Standards, Hypocrisy, and Racism
What does it mean for the Palestinian rights movement?

Few would suggest that Russia's devastating and destructive invasion of Ukraine deserves less than our deepest concern and a robust response, though we have a wide range of views on what that response should be.

However, these events dominating our Western media for two months have also raised unavoidable and troubling questions among justice advocates and human rights defenders.

In the world's response and particularly from the United States, we have seen outrage over war crimes, endorsement of grassroots militant resistance, empathy for refugees and support for their right to return home, and a remarkable embrace of BDS-type actions by governments, businesses and the general public.

We cannot help but note that all these responses have been glaringly lacking in the worlds' response to Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people. That applies as well to other disturbing crises and conflicts afflicting peoples in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

While the vivid double standards and hypocrisy on display - and the racism that underlies them - are shocking, they may also be instructive.

In this webinar, we will examine these developments more closely and consider what can be learned to inform and strengthen the movement for Palestinian liberation.

Our panel includes two prominent voices for justice, both of whom have recently published insightful commentary on this subject of Ukraine and Palestine.

NADA ELIA is a prominent Palestinian activist and speaker, a widely published author and political analyst, and an award-winning academic on subjects concerning global affairs and ethnic studies.

EDO KONRAD is Editor-in-Chief of +972 Magazine, one of Israel's leading publications for groundbreaking activist reporting that challenges the current realities of apartheid, occupation and colonialism.

UMKR's Communications Director, M. Theresa Basile, will be the moderator for this discussion.

Don't miss this timely conversation on current events that are dominating our news cycle and will influence the course of the Palestinian rights movement.

UMKR provides vital leadership and partnership in intersectional justice work in our church and in civil society across the world.

For 11 years, UMKR has been leading the struggle for Palestinian rights in the global United Methodist Church.

Our movement is independent of the denomination.

So we depend entirely on those who believe the work for Palestinian liberation matters, and that it must continue.
